Mother’s Breeze Earrings

I’ve just made my first ten pairs of earrings! It was fun! I’ve made one pair a night after work for the last two weeks, and it’s taken me about two hours to make per pair. I thought it was going to take a lot longer, and I’m actually pleasantly surprised at the whole process. It actually is something that I could see myself doing once I retire. It’s kind of like the modern-day version of knitting. I can just sit in the garden or watch TV with my equipment on my lap and work away. It’s really relaxing.

It seems like the amount of time and effort I put into each pair of earrings really depends on me. If I want to dedicate three hours of my undivided attention to a pair of earrings then I can, but if I decide I want to have an easy day, I can just make a couple of breeze earrings without thinking too much and move on.

This is something that I can see myself doing going forward. I’m actually dreading retirement less now that I have this as a possible hobby or even career in the future. I’m going to see if there are any Melbourne earrings clubs around that I can join, just like there are knitting clubs. Maybe I can spend time with a group of women (and men) who also enjoy making earrings and we can become friends. I’m going to need another social outlet seeing as I won’t be spending time with my colleagues anymore.

Once again, my daughter was right. She takes after me which means she often is, but I’m glad that I listened to her. I was definitely getting more and more worried about retirement and it was making me go a little crazy. I’m glad that I took a step back and listened to what she had to say, because she’s a smart woman, just like her mother.
